Soothing Milk Bath

Three ingredients make up this wonderful soothing milk bath!

Are you a bath or a shower person? I am definitely a bath person. I look forward to my quiet time each night with at least 30 minutes of soaking in a hot tub of water. For those of you that love showers – just wait, recipes coming soon for you!

The recipe I am going to share includes only 3 simple ingredients and you will step out of your tub feeling less stress and soft as a baby’s butt!

Recipe:

  • 1 1/2 Cups Epsom Salt
    • reduces stress, promotes sleep, and soothes aching muscles
  • 1 Cup Dry Milk
    • reduces inflammation, replenishes hydration, and acts as an exfoliation due to the lactic acid
  • 1 Cup Baking Soda
    • promotes detoxification

Directions:

  • Mix all three ingredients together and place in air-tight container
  • Apply one cup of powder to your bath water (I add it as the water is running vs. waiting until after I have poured the water into the tub).
  • Soak for at least 30 minutes
  • Perform 4 times per week and can store for up to 1 year – please note that you will need to shake your jar each day to loosen the particles as they may stick after some time has passed

Travel/Education:

In 2019 we took a trip to the Middle East where one of the countries we traveled included Egypt. This is definitely a country where you can still step back in time, where old meets new, but the old is really old, well ancient. Egypt is where the first recorded bath occurred and it was with none other than Cleopatra herself. Of course she didn’t use Cow’s milk, she used Donkey’s milk. Believe it or not, donkey milk is making a come-back and becoming very popular as it is closest to human milk and higher than other animal milks on the pH chart towards neutral.

I don’t know if anybody cares or even needs it, but I have compared milk types to pH balances and have found the following:

  • Donkey milk has a 7.09 pH
  • Cow milk has a 6.62 pH
  • Goat milk has a 6.5 pH

A human’s normal pH level is anywhere between 7.35 to 7.45.

Cleopatra is the example that everyone uses in talking about baths, but there is Bethsheba from the Bible. Also, if we hop on over to Spain then you have the Alhambra, a Moorish palace located in Granada – within the Alhambra there is a fantastic and beautiful Moorish tiled bath that is fashioned after the Roman baths of the day! Can you imagine being in the 14th century timeframe and having such lavish baths that were more like pools, having large, beautiful and tiled steam rooms, etc.? In those days in the Alhambra, blind musicians would serenade the Sultan.

I priced some milk bath products so you can compare how this recipe is cheaper and better than other products on the market. Remember to keep in mind that less in ingredients is always better, also the first mentioned ingredients are always the primary ingredients:

  • Product 1 – 68 fl oz. was $9.45 and had 17 ingredients, with the first ingredient being water
  • Product 2 – 13.5 fl oz. was $70 and had 35 ingredients, with the first ingredient being water
  • Product 3 – 28.7 fl oz. was $13.56 and had 20 ingredients, with the first ingredient being water

I hope you enjoyed this trip to learn all about the milk bath and hope you enjoy the Soothing Milk Bath recipe along with the results it provides you.
