Guarding Myself Against Mosquitoes

It’s not even summer and yet the mosquitos and other biting bugs are out and about. Mosquitoes can definitely put a damper on the fun you want at any outdoor event. Whether it’s while you are trying to enjoy a glass of iced tea on your deck, trying to picnic outside or lay out by the pool, these mosquitoes just want to bite you!

Most mosquito bites will only produce a red bump and itching to your skin. This is an irritation which is caused by an allergic reaction to the mosquito’s saliva when it bites you.

Mosquito Trivia:

  • Only the female mosquitoes bite – go figure, females are blamed for everything!
  • There are over 200 different species of mosquitoes in the United States
  • According to the CDC, there have been 13 viruses and 3 parasites identified that mosquitoes can carry from one person and pass on to another person

When my family travels to areas where we know it is going to be mosquito-prone we will always take an insect repellent with us. It doesn’t matter if our trips are within the United States or outside the country, we want to always ensure we are protecting our skin.

My ‘go-to’ travel backpack!

When we travel using any airline, I like the ‘Skin so Soft Bug Guard Plus Picaridin Towelettes’. There are 8 towelette packages in a heavy-duty resealable bag. I can easily carry them in my luggage going through security. I do not have to check my bag because I have a pump or aerosol bottle that is larger than 3.4 oz. of liquid or gel substance. I also don’t want the wait time of waiting for my luggage once the flight has landed. Once we are at our destination, we apply our bug repellent and enjoy our time wherever we are and whatever we are doing. It has a low odor with a light, clean feel and is DEET-free! It also lasts about 8 hours before another application needs to be applied.

As mentioned previously, there are 8 towelettes in a zip lock bag. If you have a scheduled tour or a time-related commitment and don’t want to apply the bug repellent on you at your hotel, then you can take however many towelette packets you will need out of the zip lock bag and throw them into your day-travel bag and apply it later. It is easy, on-the-go, and extremely convenient and has long-lasting effectiveness.
