WHY IT’S AMAZING

In Jet, Oklahoma, off State Hwy 11, there is an Artesian Well that provides fresh water full of minerals. Thousands of years ago, glacier waters flowed from Colorado ice fields into northern Oklahoma. This pristine water was safely stored in natural sandstone where it was enhanced with minerals over time.

You can get this water free of charge, anytime of day or night. If you don’t have a gallon jug to collect this water, don’t fret. We used one of our 16 oz. water bottles and collected this refreshing, cold and great-tasting water. It is rare to find ‘fresh’ water these days, but this is definitely fresh water.

We had the privilege of running into some old timers when we were filling up our bottles at the well. They told us there was a swimming hole way behind the fenced off area in which they spent many a summer day playing and swimming. However, that is now off-limits, but it was great hearing their stories of when they were little kids. They also drink and use this water on a daily basis.

This well was drilled in 1954 by Edward (Eddie) Brickman. He wanted to ensure that all travelers had access to fresh water.

In 2003 the land and well were bought by McDermott Living Trust from the Brickman Estate. Max McDermott established deVine in 2003. He wanted to share this fresh water with the world. You can buy his water product online; however, if you happen to come across this artesian well on Hwy 11 in Oklahoma, don’t fret as he still honors the sentiments of Eddie Brickman in that anybody that stops at the well is still provided free, fresh water.

Travel Tips:

The deVine artesian well is right off the side of the road so it is a very easy walk – there is no parking lot so be prepared to just pull off on the side of the road.

Be prepared to collect water from the well. A lot of locals collect their water with gallon or larger jugs and tanks, but feel free to do what we did and just use an empty water bottle we had laying around in the car.
