Frankincense is a spice that smells sweet and woody with a note of lemon and comes from the Boswellia tree found in North Africa, West Africa, India, Oman and Yemen. It is also known as the “King of Oils’ due to its versatility. Also, this is a spice that God instructed the Israelites to use in making the sacred incense for the most holy place in the tabernacle. In the book of Matthew, there are three magi that visit baby Jesus in Bethlehem and provide gifts. One of these gifts was Frankincense, which was an acknowledgement of Jesus’ priesthood and set him apart from other typical kings as Frankincense was used in temple ceremonial routines.
Frankincense is a pain reliver, an expectorant and sedative. It has antiseptic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antidepressant properties.
Because Frankincense is a sedative, it will bring a calming effect for those having trouble sleeping and boosts the immune system and can help prevent onset of sickness such as the cold and flu. Since Frankincense is an anti-inflammatory, it can assist with arthritic pain. Frankincense also helps with mental clarity and helps us focus and pay attention to details.
